Welcome

to the Road Jam

The Road Jam is a 48-hour Global Service Jam taken on the road.
We will be jamming innovative service solutions while driving from Berlin to Rome.

Global Service Jam

From http://www.globalservicejam.org:

On 1 March 2013, people who are interested in service and using a design-based approach to problem solving and creativity will meet all over the globe. In a spirit of experimentation, co-operation and friendly competition, teams will have 48 hours to develop brand new services inspired by a shared theme. On Sunday at 3pm, they publish them to the world.

What a Jam is…

Imagine a Jam session in music. You come together, bringing your instruments, your skills, your open mind.  Someone sets up a theme, and you start to Jam around it. You don’t overanalyse it, you don’t discuss it to death, you Jam. You bounce your ideas off other people, and play around with what comes back. Together, you build something which none of you could have built alone. And at the same time, you are learning new ideas, discovering more about how you work and whom you best work with, sharpening your skills, and having a great time. And who knows, maybe there are one or two ideas there which might make it to the next album. Or maybe you Jammed so well, you decide to form a band…

The Global Service Jam works in just the same way. But it’s not music you are Jamming – it’s ideas. You’ll be working with people you might never have met before, bouncing ideas off one another and building on what bounces back. And it’s not just talking - you are here to turn your ideas into a concrete design, prototype and plan of action which you or somebody else might want to make real. Can you prototype and plan it in a way that someone could go out and make it real, knowing what resources they would need, what they should do, and who they should talk to?  That’s the challenge of the Jam.

The Route

We will be driving from Berlin to Rome in 48 hours, while jamming on the way. We will start with the Global Service Jam Berlin on March 1st at 17:00 where the theme will be announced at 18:30. We will then drive to Münchberg (330km) while brainstorming – having dinner on the way – where we will stay the night.
Getting up early on Saturday, March 2nd, we will drive to Nuremberg (130km) where we will be for breakfast at 09:00 and join the morning presentations. After that we drive to Munich (170km) while doing our initial research. Re-Fueling, re-stocking and joining presentations after lunch in Munich, we will then go for 550km to Milano while conducting synthesis and ideation, as well as first prototyping and validation. Arriving late in Milano we will join presentations of ideas and prototypes, party, and sleep.

Then leaving very early (06:30) on Sunday, March 3rd, we will keep prototyping on our way to Roma (600km) where we will join uploads and final presentations, as well as After Jam Party. Drive back to Munich / Berlin will be on Monday, March 4th.

Sponsoring

Sponsors wanted!

We are a non-profit, committed and fun crew of professionals who came together to jam in a new way – if you’re interested in transportation, traffic, or adjacent fields and willing to join us, but can not do so in person, don’t hesitate – you can still enjoy the benefits of supporting our trip!

What we think we need
We are still looking for support around our general means of transport (read: car/van, fuel/alternative fuel, a bus, or whatever you can come up with that can take us from Jam to Jam within the tight time schedule we have), communication (Radios in Germany already covered by our friendly Partner “Funkgeräte-Vermietung” (see below)), work, documentation and prototyping material, machinery or simply financial help for all those important little things that can make or break such an endeavour.

What you get if you partner up with us
What we are willing to give back to you  is more than just an honourable mention on our page here and on our social media channels before, during and after the Jam. We want to involve you, we like to consider you our partners in crime. So if we can make any observation or research regarding a topic surrounding your support during the roadjam, we will do that and provide you with our insights – be it around holiday traffic jams (which we hope we won’t get caught in..), travel hospitality, in-car electronics, a new app you have to track our progress, navigation system.. you name it!
